Bloody-nosed Beetle

A couple of Bloody-nosed Beetles Timarcha tenebricosa were found at Totternhoe Quarry on the Butterfly Conservation work-party today by Charles or Peter. I spotted them staring at something and went to investigate. The beetles had been mating until I arrived with a camera.

Here's some snaps of the female who had a real flair for getting under a twig or behind a bit of moss...

We also saw a Brimstone on a couple of occasions.
